How does a flame arrester work ?
How does a flame arrester work? : Flame arresters work by disrupting the propagation of flame through a confined space, such as a pipe or tank.
The basic principle of a flame arrester is that it contains a mesh or wire screen that is made from materials such as stainless steel or brass. The screen is placed at the opening of the equipment that is at risk of explosion or fire. When an explosive gas mixture or flammable liquid vapor enters the equipment, it passes through the screen. The screen is designed to have very small openings that are smaller than the size of the flame.
If a flame is ignited by a spark or other source of ignition within the equipment, the flame will try to propagate through the screen. However, the screen’s small openings will cause the flame to lose its energy, cool down, and extinguish. As a result, the flame arrester prevents the fire from spreading and causing further damage.
