How does a flame arrester work ? : A flame arrester is a device used to prevent the propagation of flames and explosions in a system that contains flammable gases, liquids or vapors. It works by allowing the flow of gas or vapor through a narrow passage or a mesh of metal wires, while blocking the passage of flames.
When a flammable gas or vapor is ignited, it creates a flame that travels through the mixture, seeking fresh fuel to burn. If the flame encounters a flame arrester, the narrow passages or metal mesh of the arrestor will cause the flame to become quenched, thus preventing it from continuing to propagate further.
The narrow passages or mesh of the arrestor are designed to be small enough to block the passage of a flame, but still allow the flow of gas or vapor to continue. Additionally, the arrestor may be designed with a cooling system to help dissipate the heat generated by the flame.
Flame arrestors are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation to prevent explosions and fires from occurring in equipment and piping that contain flammable gases and vapors.
