Anode rod replacement : Replacing an anode rod is a relatively straightforward process that can be done by a homeowner with some basic tools. Here are the steps to replace an anode rod:
Turn off the power supply to the water heater or turn off the gas supply if it is a gas-powered unit.
Shut off the cold water supply valve to the water heater.
Locate the anode rod. It is usually located on the top of the water heater tank and can be accessed by removing the hex head screw on the top of the tank.
Remove the old anode rod by turning it counterclockwise with a socket wrench or breaker bar. If the anode rod is difficult to remove, you may need to use a penetrating oil or heat to loosen it.
Install the new anode rod by turning it clockwise until it is tight. Make sure to use Teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaks.
Turn the cold water supply valve back on and allow the tank to fill with water.
Turn on the power supply or gas supply and relight the pilot light if necessary.
It’s important to note that not all water heaters have the same type of anode rod, and some may require a different replacement procedure. Be sure to consult the owner’s manual for your specific water heater model before attempting to replace the anode rod.
