To use the gauge cock, the handwheel or lever is rotated to open or close the valve. When the valve is open, liquid flows through the gauge, allowing for accurate measurement of the liquid level in the tank. When the valve is closed, the flow of liquid is stopped, allowing for safe maintenance or repair of the gauge.
