A red line sight glass, often referred to as a redline glass tube, is a type of transparent borosilicate glass tube designed specifically for visual liquid level indication in industrial applications. The distinctive feature of this tube is the presence of a continuous red stripe running longitudinally along its outer surface. This stripe is not a painted marking that can be easily removed but is permanently fused or embedded into the glass during manufacturing.
The purpose of the red stripe is to create a high-contrast visual reference when the tube is partially filled with liquid. In normal transparent sight glass tubes, the interface between the liquid and vapor phase can be difficult to distinguish, especially when the liquid is clear or colorless, or when the surrounding environment has low or inconsistent lighting.
